Out of 12 cars, the Forward Collision Alert system integrated in the 2014 Chevrolet Volt earned it the Institute for Highway Safety’s 2014 Top Safety Pick award. Added to that, the Chevrolet Volt also earned a decent score in a tough small overlap front crash test, conducted by the IIHS. The amazing test results put this car at a better stance compared to its competitors, both in small and electric power train car segments. The IIHS senior vice president for vehicle research, Joe Nolan explained that the outstanding performance of the Chevrolet Volt puts it at the top among the safest small cars. He also praised GM for coming up with such a strong small car, which was designed even before the crash tests were introduced. The Volt managed to secure the highest, ‘good’ rating in four out of the six IIHS tests. In the remaining two Structure category and the Restraints and Kinematics tests, the car earned a decent ‘acceptable’ rating. The vice president of GM Global Vehicle Safety explained how the company aims to keep up with the solid safety standards. He added that achieving the highest safety ratings in the IIHS tests is also highly valued by the customers. The overlap front crash test was introduced in 2012 and it simulates a collision with an object, like a tree, on the front corners of the vehicle at 40mph. This way, the front bumpers are avoided so that the energy from the impact is equally distributed throughout the car. According to the IIHS, the overlap front crash test is still considered one of the most challenging tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or the IIHS. We know what you’re thinking, and no, you’re not dreaming. We took one of the most iconic toys to ever hit the shelves and turned it into one of the coolest real-life production Camaro models to date. We understand that you’re probably not convinced. You’re probably thinking this is something only a genie could grant you after being coaxed out of a magic lamp. Or a far-fetched ending to some feel-good Hollywood movie. Well you can stop rubbing that lamp and put away the popcorn ’cause the 2013 Camaro Hot Wheels Special Edition is truly coming to life. And boy is it cool. Remember spending countless hours pretending to roar around orange plastic racetracks, while you had to make your own engine noises? Or how about when you begged your mom to let you play for just five more minutes because you were in the middle of the biggest race of your Hot Wheels career? Of course, those are memories that you’ll never forget, but wouldn’t it be great to take this Kinetic Blue beauty straight out to the pavement for some real-life, awe-inspiring fun? You could even bring your mom along. Just don’t be surprised if this time around, you find her begging you for five more minutes. Inspired by one of the sixteen original Hot Wheels toy cars, one glance will leave anyone in awe, as they fawn over the black painted 21" red-striped wheels, black grille surround with red pinstripe, black racing stripe, and Hot Wheels logos on the front fenders, decklid and front seats. This limited, special edition Camaro is a dream come true for millions of fans, collectors and anyone who remembers feeling that kid-like sense of wonder. Available to order 10/29. COURTESY CHEVROLET

In the blink of an eye, the 2014 and 2015 Chevrolet Malibu is leading the way in bringing fuel-saving standard start/stop technology to the mainstream sedan market. Ninety-seven percent of customers who purchased a 2014 or 2015 Malibu – accounting for about 83,000 vehicles – opted for the 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder base engine equipped with standard stop/start technology. It is the most aggressive rollout of stop/start technology in the U.S. by an American automaker. Stop/start reduces fuel consumption and wasteful idling by automatically shutting off the engine when the car comes to a stop – such as at a traffic light. The engine automatically restarts within 337 milliseconds – about the speed of the blink of an eye – after the driver takes his foot off the brake. “Chevrolet will continue to bring innovative technologies across our product lineup and stop/start is one of many ways we are helping customers save at the gas pump,” said Steve Majoros, director of Chevrolet cars. Last fall, the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu became the first vehicle for the brand sold in the U.S. with stop/start technology. In conjunction with a new valve lift control feature and a new six-speed automatic transmission, it helped achieve a 14-percent improvement in city fuel economy, or an EPA-estimated 25 miles per gallon. J.D. Power’s most recent Initial Quality Survey, which measures the quality of vehicles after 90 days of ownership, showed customers ranked the 2014 Malibu higher than any other vehicle in its segment. The technology capitalizes on vehicle idling occurrences. According to Sustainable America, the average American driver spends 16 minutes each day idling in his or her vehicle. That adds up to four days a year going nowhere. Vehicle idling also results in Americans wasting approximately 3.8 million gallons of gas each day, according to a study by The Hinkle Charitable Foundation. This explains in part Chevrolet’s commitment to the technology. Recently, Chevrolet announced the addition of standard stop/start technology in the flagship 2015 Impala sedan. It improves city fuel economy by 5 percent, or one mpg for an EPA-estimated 22 miles per gallon. The 2015 Impala is available for sale now. A report from Navigant Research predicted worldwide sales of vehicles with stop/start technology will grow from 8.8 million in 2013 to 55.4 million in 2022. COURTESY CHEVROLET
